Poetry

Every week we have a big book and a poem. In week 3 we had The Giant's Ice Cream as our big book and a poem called Ice Cream.

Arianna brought in her Smiggle ice-cream highlighter which was like the ice cream that the giant made! How cool was that!

The children drew some amazing ice creams to illustrate their poems.

Ice cream, ice-cream yummy stuff!!!!
What is your favourite ice cream?

Reading in Room 9a

We have been working hard with our Reading and we are now doing more tricky activities during our taskboard time.

We can find two smaller words to put together to make a bigger word. These are called compound words.

snow + ball = snowball
pop + corn = popcorn

We are clever enough now to recognize our upper and lower case letters, then put them in the order of the alphabet using the help of the butterfly card.

Some of us are learning to read without finger pointing, we robot out words we don't know and try to ready fluently so that our Reading sounds like talking!

Can you believe how clever we are at Reading now?

Compound Words

We have been reading lots of compound words in the books we read so we have been learning about them in Room 9.

A compound word is 2 smaller words which are joined together to make another word for example:

pop       corn
popcorn

Mrs Burge could not believe how good we were at making compound words! Woo hoo!

Parachute Fun

This week, we have been using the parachute

We bounced balls, bean bags and even Kevin the Kiwi on the parachute.

We did Maths, singing and we even swapped places by running under the parachute.
It was so much fun.

We even sat down, pulled the parachute down our backs and under our bottoms so we were under the parachute like a dome and sang songs.
What a lot of fun!

Reading

In Reading, we have been learning to use our fingers to show letters, words, first sounds and last sounds.

Olive could find the first sound - 'r' for 'reading' and show Mrs Burge with her fingers.

Kate, could use her fingers to find the word 'am'.

Sophie, could use her fingers to show the final (last) sound 'g' in the work 'riding'.

We enjoyed reading some of the books we have already read with Mrs Burge and our families from our book boxes too.

Reading is fun!

Mrs Harding was teaching in Room 9 today

On a Wednesday Mrs Harding will be teaching us.

We did some alphabet puzzles and Alexander did some writing on the white boards.

We did some mindfulness and then used the patch play quilt for Oral Language  which gave us ideas for our Writing. We wrote about what we could see on the quilt. I can see...

Look at how clever we were matching the number to the lily pad and then matching the correct number of counters too!

What a fantastic day of learning.
