Writing

We have been using some of the common words to help us write sentences.

One day this week we used "I am' to help us start a sentence.

Kate was very clever and helped Mrs Burge to find the word I using the butterfly card.

We are getting clever at finding words we know in the red, blue or yellow boxes.

We can also hear the sounds in words we don't have on the butterfly card like 'ktn' for kitten.

Reading

In Reading, we have been learning to use our fingers to show letters, words, first sounds and last sounds.

 Olive could find the first sound - 'r' for 'reading' and show Mrs Burge with her fingers.

Kate, could use her fingers to find the word 'am'.

Sophie, could use her fingers to show the final (last) sound 'g' in the work 'riding'. 

We enjoyed reading some of the books we have already read with Mrs Burge and our families from our book boxes too.

Welcome to Room 9 Yolanda

On Monday, Yolanda started in Room 9

Room 9 are looking forward to getting to know you. We are sure that you will make friends and have fun with us all.

Mana Principal Award

On Friday, Tai received a Mana Principal's Award.

When his name was called out, he was sooooooo excited that he skipped over to Mrs Driver to shake her hand. 

We are so proud of how hard you are working Tai!  

Well done, you should be very proud of all you have achieved so far at Sunnyhills School.

Visitors for Week 7

On Thursday we had two visitors to Room 9

Blake and Yolanda came to visit. Blake starts in Room 9 in Week 9 but Yolanda starts on Monday!

Go Noodle

We had our first Year 1 Go Noodle session in the hall on Friday. 

Room8, 9a, 10 and 13 joined together to have some fitness and fun together. 

We had such a lot of sun!

Week 6 Koru Whanau Assembly Certificates

This week we had a Koru Whanau (Years 1-3) Assembly.

We have been working with 2D shapes

We used circles, squares, rectangles and triangles to make 

repeating patterns.

We used 2D shapes to create fire engines.

We used 2D shapes to make pictures.

Mrs Harding was teaching in Room 9 today

On a Wednesday Mrs Harding will be teaching us. 

We did some alphabet puzzles and Alexander did some writing on the white boards.

We did some mindfulness and then used the patch play quilt for Oral Language  which gave us ideas for our Writing. We wrote about what we could see on the quilt. I can see...

Look at how clever we were matching the number to the lily pad and then matching the correct number of counters too!

We were so clever at using our butterfly cards to find letters and words. 

Visitors Week 4

Olive came for a visit

We had a great time in the sandpit.

Olive enjoyed playing on the playground. 

Amazing Maths

We LOVE numbers in Room 9!

We were able to read the numbers 0-5.

We ordered the numbers to make a human numberline.

Mrs Burge showed us a number up to 5 and we had to get the right number of counters.

We are so clever that we could count on and back from 0-10!

We matched the number on the frog to the correct number of spots on the lilypads!

Numbers, Numbers Everywhere!

Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star

Our Poem for this week is Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star

We used oil pastels to draw the stars.

Then we used ink to cover the whole paper. 

The ink was like magic and it ran off the oil pastels so the beautiful stars shone through.
