Scooter Training for Room 9a with Janet from Auckland Transport
Today Janet from Auckland Transport came into school to work with us on scooter training.
First of all, Janet talked to us about our helmets.
She told us never to wear our sunhats under our helmets as it stops the helmet from sitting correctly.
Then she taught us that if our helmet fits us correctly, we should only be able to fit two fingers between our eyebrows and the start of the helmet.
Lots of our helmets had 4-5 fingers between our eyes and the helmet which means that they are too big!
We use our fingers to make a V and that is where the buckle should go under our ears.
We should only be able to get one finger between our chin and the strap of our helmet.
Lots of us could get 3-4 fingers between so the helmets are too loose! This is dangerous.
Janet checked our scooters to make sure that they weren't too wobbly from the handle to the base as this is dangerous too.
We talked about sneaky driveways and how we should look both ways when we go past a sneaky driveway on our scooter.
We got ready to learn some more safety tips.
We learned how to bend our knees and jump off the scooter with both feet together while holding the handles in an emergency stop.
We also learned how to use the back break to slow ourselves down a little.
Please check your child's helmet as many of the helmets were not fitting correctly for your child. Also your child must ALWAYS wear a helmet when on a scooter or a bike to keep them safe.

NZ Native Fur Seals
Room 9 and 9a have been learning about the NZ Native Fur Seal. Mrs Harding did some work with Room 9a. It took a while to go through the steps but what an amazing job they did!
Come and see the wonderful display that Mrs Harding has put together to show the process Room 9a went through.
NZ Native Tuatara
Come into Room 9 and 9a to see our amazing NZ Native Tuatara displays.
Come and read the amazing facts about NZ Native Tuatara and you never know, you may learn something!
Olive's Daddy did a super job of telling Mrs Burge this morning all of the facts that he had learned about Tuatara. He even got a sticker for doing so well! Go Robbie!!!
Assemblies
Last Friday we had our last Koru Whanau Assembly for 2020!
Louisa, Lucas, Yolanda and Anna were so happy because they received a certificate!
Well done guys!
Can you believe Room 9a won the assembly award too! What a fantastic last assembly for the year! Look at how shocked Raphael is in the front row!!! He just can't believe it!
Today we had a Whole School Assembly and Eliana, Jacob L and Jennifer received a certificate. We were so late getting out of assembly that the bell had gone and Mrs Burge managed to catch Eliana and Jennifer for a photo but she sadly couldn't catch Jacob L for a photo.
Well done you three.

Domino Addition
We all solved addition problems using the dominoes.
It helps with counting, number formation and adding two groups together.
Once we are good at this we will move on to dice addition where we roll the dice, write the number then roll the dice again and add the two numbers together.
